Chlorine introduced into the water supply reacts with other naturally-occurring elements to form toxins called trihalomethanes (THMs), which eventually make their way into our bodies. THMs have been linked to a wide range of human health maladies ranging from asthma and eczema to bladder cancer and heart disease. In addition, several studies have been linked moderate to heavy consumption of chlorinated tap water by pregnant women with higher miscarriage and birth defect rates.

How does it work?

The iron breaker stores a "bubble" of air, compressed by your well pressure, within the media tank. As your water passes thru the air, the iron and sulfur is converted to a particle which is then trapped by the catalytic filter media in the tank while the air "bubble" is gradually consumed by the passing water. For regeneration, the unit first "backwashes" itself, removing any iron or sulfur particles it has trapped. The system then replenishes the "air bubble" by drawing in atmosphere, temporarily emptying the tank of all water and transferring oxygen molecules into and on the surface of the media bed where all oxidation occurs. The system then returns to the "service" position, again filtering your water.

What are KDF® Process Media and how do they work?

During this reaction, electrons are transferred between molecules, and new elements are created. Some harmful contaminants are changed into harmless components. Free chlorine, for instance, is changed into benign, water-soluble chloride, which is then carried harmlessly through the water supply. Similarly, some heavy metals such as copper, lead, mercury and others, react to plate out onto the medium’s surface, thus being effectively removed from the water supply.
