Chemical free Iron and Sulfur removal

Important information regarding the use of chlorine injection systems to remove iron and sulfur from your water:

Chlorine introduced into the water supply reacts with other naturally-occurring elements to form toxins called trihalomethanes (THMs), which eventually make their way into our bodies. THMs have been linked to a wide range of human health maladies ranging from asthma and eczema to bladder cancer and heart disease. In addition, several studies have been linked moderate to heavy consumption of chlorinated tap water by pregnant women with higher miscarriage and birth defect rates.

The Iron Breaker III from Aquarius Water Refining will compleatly remove the iron and sulfur from your water without using these harmful chemical!

How does it work?

The iron breaker stores a "bubble" of air, compressed by your well pressure, within the media tank. As your water passes thru the air, the iron and sulfur is converted to a particle which is then trapped by the catalytic filter media in the tank while the air "bubble" is gradually consumed by the passing water. For regeneration, the unit first "backwashes" itself, removing any iron or sulfur particles it has trapped. The system then replenishes the "air bubble" by drawing in atmosphere, temporarily emptying the tank of all water and transferring oxygen molecules into and on the surface of the media bed where all oxidation occurs. The system then returns to the "service" position, again filtering your water.

Bottled Water Quality Investigation: 10 Major Brands, 38 Pollutants

Bottled water contains disinfection byproducts, fertilizer residue, and pain medication

October 2008

Authors: Olga Naidenko, PhD, Senior Scientist; Nneka Leiba, MPH, Researcher; Renee Sharp, MS, Senior Scientist; Jane Houlihan, MSCE, Vice President for Research

The bottled water industry promotes an image of purity, but comprehensive testing by the Environmental Working Group (EWG) reveals a surprising array of chemical contaminants in every bottled water brand analyzed, including toxic byproducts of chlorination in Walmart’s Sam’s Choice and Giant Supermarket's Acadia brands, at levels no different than routinely found in tap water. Several Sam's Choice samples purchased in California exceeded legal limits for bottled water contaminants in that state. Cancer-causing contaminants in bottled water purchased in 5 states (North Carolina, California, Virginia, Delaware and Maryland) and the District of Columbia substantially exceeded the voluntary standards established by the bottled water industry. read more

What are KDF® Process Media and how do they work?

KDF® Process Media are high-purity, granulated copper and zinc-based alloys
that treat water through a process based upon the principle of redox
(Oxidation-Reduction). Originally, KDF was shorthand for Kinetic Degradation
Fluxion.

We can explain redox like this: KDF Fluid Treatment’s unique combination of copper and zinc creates an electro-chemical reaction. During this reaction, electrons are transferred between molecules, and new elements are created. Some harmful contaminants are changed into harmless components. Free chlorine, for instance, is changed into benign, water-soluble chloride, which is then carried harmlessly through the water supply. Similarly, some heavy metals such as copper, lead, mercury and others, react to plate out onto the medium’s surface, thus being effectively removed from the water supply.

Patented KDF process media are 100 percent recyclable and contain no chemical additives. Hospitals, restaurants, municipal water treatment facilities, and homes rely on KDF process media to safely reduce or remove chlorine, iron, hydrogen sulfide, heavy metals, and bacteria from their water.

In 1992, KDF 85® and KDF 55® Process Media were certified by NSF International to its Standard 61 for drinking water.
In 1997, ten years after KDF Fluid Treatment, Inc. became a member of the Water Quality Association, the WQA listed KDF media in its Glossary of Terms and Residential Water Processing and, also that year, KDF 55 Process Medium was certified to ANSI/NSF Standard 42 for drinking water.

What is Iron

Iron
What is iron?
Iron is a naturally occurring metal and one of the earth's most plentiful chemicals. It makes up at least five percent of the earth's crust. Rainfall seeping through the soil dissolves iron in the earth's surface. From there, rain carries the iron into almost every kind of natural water supply. This includes private drinking water wells. Although iron occurs naturally in ground water, it is rarely at concentrations greater than 10,000 micrograms per liter (ug/L).
Iron exists in a number of forms in water. Water with high iron levels can form reddish brown particles that settle to the bottom of a glass of water. When iron combines with tea, coffee and other beverages, it can produce an inky, black appearance and a harsh, unacceptable taste. Vegetables cooked in water containing excessive iron turn dark and look unappealing.
Concentrations of iron as low as 300 ug/L can leave reddish brown stains on plumbing fixtures, tableware and laundry that can be very hard to remove. When these deposits break loose from water piping, rusty water will flow through the faucet.
Finally, excess iron may cause the growth of iron bacteria. Iron bacteria leave a reddish brown or yellow slime that can clog plumbing. The slime can also cause an offensive odor. You may notice this slime or sludge in your toilet tank.
